Okay...last night I had a lucid dream for a few seconds, where this man came to my house and took a gun out for no apparent reason, and therefore I realized it must be a dream. Then I got really nervous that I would think I was to get shot, so I would really get shot. I know it won't be real, but it is still really scary. Anyway, I thought about it and decided to go up and knock the gun out of their hand. So I did it, and it worked. However, after I did this, I quickly woke up (I really don't remember why). Do you have any advice for controlling my fears and staying lucid in the dream? This is something I really want to do, and am willing to face this fear in order to do it. Thanks!

Often times when you gain control of your dreams you will wake up, especially if you change the course of the dream by a lot. There are ways to stay in it though, my advice is to just go with the flow as much as you can. You'll learn to face your fears in your dream the more you do, to the point that if your conscience in your dream you can overcome anything in it :)

You can't always control your fears in dreams. You are actually facing your fears and many you will control, but the ones that scare you the most will wake you. Not all lucid dreams will be about fears. Anyway, you most likely will not have the same dream again because you faced that fear already and will move on to another.

This is a fact, you can recognize a dream because the part of the mind responsible for dreaming is incapable of understanding written language. If you get in the habit of reading a certain phrase on a note card, or street signs, etc, you will see these images in your dreams also, but the words will be garbled and obscured and you will know you are dreaming. In my experience, Nicotine patches worn while sleeping caused me to have very vivid, lucid dreams.

There is no way to tell without more information, but here are some ideas. If you watch a lot of violence on TV, or too much news, it could cause a dream like this. Focus on what you're thinking about just before you go to bed. If this is the case, try focusing on something positive, and peaceful before you retire. Whatever you concentrate on, grows in your life.

It is so obvious that you are in lack of some sort of security in your life. Dreaming of gun shooting at you symbolizes things you have anxiety about things around you. In your case, you do not feel secure subconsciously at all. Although you are trying to control it, but that only implies you are trying to struggle and try to be in denial
