Yes, they are mounted on the header(above the door). They are more expensive, and require that you have a high enough ceiling, but they are available.

Yes there is a garage door opener on the market today that mounts between the torsion bar that is typically located at the garage door header. It is also electric and it is equipped with a
8 ft. cord give or take.
