there are several different ways that math is used in the actual game itself, for one there is the score, if you are down by 16 you know that you can make that up a few different ways.
two, if you are chasing someone down you do not want to try to run them down from behind, you have to figure out the best angle to take so that you can catch them and you have to do it fast. ( geometry)
That is only a couple of ways I am sure there are more.
