THis is my first baby and I've read some books and people have requested "Babys first Year" my son is 1 month old and I would like some advice on ways to bond and at the same time teach him new things. I know one good one is to read to him. What are some other ways to help my baby learn the wonderful things around him.

Babies don't really learn at 1 month. They're just getting used to seeing things let alone know what they do. Reading to him is fine, but don't expect him to learn much from it.

As for bonding, just look at him and let him see your face and hear your voice. Sing to him, cuddle him, etc.

"What To Expect The First Year" IS a wonderful read!

Here are the things I try to do daily to bond with my baby and stimulate/teach her at the same time:

1. Sing to her
2. Coo at her
3. Talk to her
4. Massage her joints - they love this!
5. Read to her
6. Play music for her (I play the piano for her, but you can play a CD - they love music!)
7. Give her time to try to grab a rattle and follow the object back and forth
8. Show her black and white pictures (there are activity mats, books, and the like with black and white contrasts that help them develop vision)
9. Take her outside in the fresh air.

My baby is two months old - my first, too! - and I have been doing these things since she was about one month old because I felt comfortable doing more with her.

I hope this helps! Enjoy your sweet little one!

B-feeding him is a great way to bond. You both look into each other's eyes and can touch each other. He learns you like to hold him close to you. Respond to him both when he's happy and sad. He learns he is important and that you will be there for him. Talk to him about his feelings that he shows with his facial expressions. Tell him about his world because he learns from the first day (though some may disagree). Talk to him every day, tell him your plans, tell him what you're doing (bath time, diapering, changing), tell him what noses, chins, ears, etc are. Show him the snow, the rain, the sunshine, let him feel the wind.
While he won't remember this stuff with clarity. It sets the foundation for the "feeling" he'll have about his childhood later. It will set up how he'll interact with people, and how he will problem solve.

I have to disagree with the other post. From what I've read, your baby starts learning before they're ever born, like your voice, for instance, the sound of your dog barking. They are sponges, they will absorb everything around them as soon as they're out, learning for the rest of their lives.

As far as bonding, my husband and I took a baby massage class. It focuses on quiet time between baby and mom/dad, touching and talking. Call a local massage therapist to see if they are certified. We actually were able to take the class for free, because our teacher was getting recertified.

The one great way to bond with your baby is skin to skin contact. It's the best way to calm an upset baby. Teaching him is another question. We call it tummy time at my house and we all get down on our bellies and put baby on his or her belly and play with him or her. This will help build neck control.

I like that you have a new born, really nice. Congratulations with that.
You should sing to your child and play soft music, try reading or just you talking, about some stuff, nothing serious, just you and a dog, something silly maybe.
Love your child, and you will do just fine, your a mother now, you will feel what to do, when it's right.

Good luck with your baby.

Your presence and upbeat mood are the best things you can give him, always. He will like the sound of your voice, maybe some light music and spending time with you. He doesn't have to be held all the time, just with you.

to sing to him or most people would say to breast feed is the best way to bond
