I don't see why you think it sucks. It is one of the best plays ever. Being in Love but not being able to love. I seriously think you should reconsider it. Try watching the movie you might find that more interesting.

Have you watched the movie? It's much more fun than reading the book - only literature students really admire the floral language. You might enjoy it more, and Leo, Harold Perrineau (Michael from Lost) and Paul Rudd are hot! On the other side some reasons to hate it:

it seems to use twenty words when two will do (all that stuff about the exchange of thy vow for mine just means marry me!)

it's so unrealistic to us that they wouldn't bother to check before doing such drastic stuff

Did you like West side story? It's kinda based on Romeo and Juliet.

Romeo and Juliet portrays an unrealistic and immature idea of love. But that's OK, because they die in the end, making the point that this might not be the way to go?!?

Don't agree? Well, here's a great essay that agrees with you (quote: "My personal opinion is that the story is lame, predictable and morally wrong.")

"i didn't like this play because i completely missed the fact that it is the beauty and art of the language that makes it great, and not the plot. while i recognize that this was one of the first instances of this powerful plot, i failed to understand what about it appeals to us on the human level, or how relevant it is today.
"because i have essentially no sense of humor, i didn't really understand any of the numerous and hilarious jokes spread throughout the play. rather, i looked at it only as a trite and cliched sob story, ignoring that it was the thing on which all the trite and cliched sob stories are based.
"also i couldn't understand the language, despite the fact that it was in modern english and is really quite accessible."

-say that its completely unrealistic, nothing like what love is.
-say the author has to suspend their disbelief so much to a point where the story simply loses its meaning
-say that the entire story is a series of unrealistic coincedences
-say that to depict love taht strongly is unreaslistic

"I didnt like the book because if they loved each other so much they should have lived and not died, i know some say its how they showed their love, but i think it would have been better if they just didnt die..."
