Recognize the patterns that occur in the table; it is not called "periodic" without reason. It is also helpful to associate each category with a familiar elemet, for example, silicon with metalloids, as it makes one familar with the properties of that group.

Memorize trends in the elements. They are grouped in families for a reason (vertical lines).

Memorize the major elements.

What do you mean by study? Memorize? Or reaction wise?
Generally, students are taught organic chemistry, followed by inorganic chemistry, followed by main group (transition metals).
