I used to go to therapy for depression, but I quit because I didn't think my therapist was even concerned with what was on my mind. She was obviously a believer in the biological approach. All she wanted to know was how I was taking and reacting to the medication, if I should switch medications and how I was eating. But all the antidepressants ever did for me was keep me up at night, give me headaches and supress my appetite. There were conditions in my life and my ways of thinking that were making me depressed, but when I tried to talk about that, my therapist didn't really listen and just wanted to put me on a new med to "pep me up". That's why I quit therapy and took my happiness into my own hands. I distanced myself from the people and job that made me depressed and started to develop what I like to call a rational optimism. So if you find that you aren't really getting anything out of therapy, maybe you should be your happiness into your own hands.
