Drinking chocolate is pure chocolate. Back when chocolate was created it was originally a liquid and it was dark chocolate. Hot chocolate is basically milk with some coco power in it. As for taste, the question is do you like dark or milk chocolate? :-)

Drinking chocolate can be a very thick drink, almost like a pudding. I make mine with the chocolate mix and water.

Hot chocolate is usually made from milk, cocoa powder & sugar. It is thinner and, to me, not quite as rich.

Hot chocolate's thinner where drinking just chocolate is thicker not to mention 100% sugar. Diabetics beware.

Hot chocolate is creamy. Drinking chocolate is usually syrup. You can use the syrup to make chocolate milk or hot chocolate (just heat in the microwave).
