Click on Tools, then Internet Options. On the General Tab, look toward the bottom under Tabs and click the Settings button. You can change how IE opens new windows here, under "when a pop up is encountered."

Hold your middle mouse button when you click on the link, it will open it in a new tab.

You may be getting dragged around by cookies, I drop them on
Anti-Spy to slow it down. You can also check browser settings by clicking on Tools, you get internet options and browser options. policeman's brother.
