Wow! Great question. I think that people allow themselves to be brainwashed by the media because they don't care to think for themselves. I don't say this with mean intentions, at all. I think that fear causes a person to retreat into ipods, computers, games, etc. People want to be cool. Most people are followers, rather than thinkers. It's easier to think about fashion, the stars, and how many points one can obtain than it is to sit in a quiet place and decide who one is. People, often times, laugh at what they fear. Think about it. I think that that is a major underlying problem of hatred.

I find it rather disconcerting as well. I really don't think it is the majority of society that is this way, but this forum allows people to remain anonymous. People tend to "hate" and fear what they don't understand and they are not willing to try to understand. They are "brainwashed" by their religion and politics into really believing that their way is the only right way, and if you don't agree you are evil or in league with the devil. One thing I have noticed it that there are apparently a few people who will give a thumbs down to anything that is not pro Christian. No matter how legitimate the question or answer. I am not a Christian, but will not judge others because they are. And the great majority of people who follow my religion feel the same way. We will not criticize anyone for what they believe but we will defend our beliefs. I do wish that people were more open minded. We should celebrate cultural difference, not discredit them. People are afraid to really look inside themselves, they might see something they don't like! Besides they are already convinced that they are right so why should they bother?

For as long as there are different people, there will be hatred. The current situation with all the hatred of Christians, Muslims, and Iraqis is all because of the gigantic stereotypes that classify each group. One such stereotype states that Muslims are terrorists and this is not so. Most Muslims don't agree with the radical groups like Al-Qaida as seen in Afghanistan. The people of Afghanistan were happy when the radical Taliban government went down. There are Islamic radicals who hate the U.S. and use Islam to justify their hate. I say let them hate us; but we MUST NOT show them equal hate. Why? As Gandhi's famous quote reveals "An eye for an eye only makes the whole world blind". If you are a Christian, follow the example of Jesus. He says "When your enemy slaps you on the right cheek, offer him your left". Love is the only way to cure hatred and it has a 100% probability of success. War or retaliation on the other hand will only make your enemies more hostile and aggressive while love makes them respect you. If you are a "deep" sorta person, I suggest you check out Gandhi's books, specifically "An Autobiography: The Story of my Experiments with Truth"
Sorry for going off topic but I couldn't resist ;). Well back to your original question. I too believe there is a bigger picture which I classify as a gigantic stereotype about a group of people. The general public, a semi-informed group of people, will soak in whatever the media tells them and not seek the full truth by themselves. If they looked deep inside them, considered the global picture and the general stereotypes, I'm sure they would see things differently.
(P.S)
Why do we forget the most important rule in all of history "Love your neighbor as you love yourself."

I think both sides are confused in different way. America for example, is having hard time accepting Muslims because of terrorists attack. Middle East is having hard time that we are like superpower in the world but we are not an empire trying to rule the world. Politics and media somehow got involved in all those confusion/brainwash.
There are balance in everything. Question and answer. Love and hatred. etc. Hero and terrorist.
People would see things differently. But it would probably take years to achieve that goal.

You are right - there does seem to be a lot of hatred towards certain groups i also notice it when people re replying to questions in this forum. The question is obviously being asked by someone with grief and loss issues or some anxiety, and people write the most insentive and nasty comments. I makes me feel quite upset.
And yes quite a few poeple voice their hatred for muslims, black people, english people, christians etc - this list is endless.
We need more tolerance in this world and less judgement. People would do realy well to adopt a non judgemental attitude like Jesus said "Let he who has done no wrong cast the first stone".
We need more understanding and care. We need to think before we act or speak, and think of what impact our words and actions are contibuting to prejudice or racial violence.
And I also think that the media manipulates people to be insensitive and intolerant.
God bless

No, it's not just you. There is way too much hate in the world today, but it's been around since sin came into the world 5000 odd years ago. It is getting a lot worse now. Okay, I'm a Christian and I do believe we are living in the last days and that Satan has increased his influence on people today. By that I mean more violence and yes there always has been violence, but it has been increasing. Children and teenagers of today are turning on their own parents and abusing them, killing them and each other. There are more religious and political wars going on now on this earth. More so than in the past and they are increasing. This is pure unbridled hate and fear..
I don't hate anybody. I may not particularly like something they have done or said, but I don't hate or dislike that person. Those are two different things. To dislike or hate somebody because of nationality or religion is in my opinion ignorance and fear.
Because of my Christian upbringing I've learned to love and accept people unconditionally even though I don't know them. Jesus taught us to love each other unconditionally in the Bible.
The best way though is to pray to God and ask for understanding and forgiveness for their hatred and fear. The answer isn't really inside of ourselves it's in God only

I think that hatred comes from habitual fear and self centeredness. It is possible to learn to love but it takes work, patience and self examination. Unfortunately a lot of people can't be bothered. However, I have found that there is more hatred in internet forums than in the real world because certain loudmouths are attracted to them. I have travelled all over, including to places people consider dangerous or full of hate, and again and again I have found that the vast majority of people are good natured.

OK this won't be pretty but i guarantee it will work....steal a Hannah Montana CD for any preteen at your local elementary school. Play anyone of the songs 20 odd times in a row and bam!!!!! your intense hatred for Alannah Myles will be replaced by either an intense hatred for pop music or insanity.

Yes there is... and i love it!! its add a bit of controversy in life.. at least people on yahoo can do it without anybody knowing who they are... yahoo brings out the honesty in people... in my opinion it is the lower classes of society that harbour the most hate..
i have asked some controversial questions and most of the reply were "kill the muslim etc" i thought it was very funny...
I think people vent their inner most thoughts on the internet because it is anomous...
But hey.. im sure you have thought bad things about your family or friends... or even other groups... and you still love them
yahoo answers brings out both the worst and best in people

The people on here aren't that racist than it looks, most want attention and want there question to get 100+ answers. The most famous one they use is against blacks. So they post over and over to try to be as offensive as they can. But most get ignored. And then some are actual real questions. But you can tell if a person wants attention versus someone that is truly clueless.
