Perhaps you do not realize that rap music is, aside from jazz, the only true american musical art from of the 20th century? That rock&roll and punk, opera, electronic, are all musical genres that are european imports. That rock itself has borrowed liberally from earlier music made by the American Negroes, namely jazz and blues. If you are a conservative, and you strive to be more American, you should immerse yourself in Rap, because rap is purely american; its viberance, its energy, its raw talent and impromptu nature, its youth, are all characteristics that exemplify the United States itself. What an amazing art form!

I don't know what you are talking about. Mainstream rap does nothing more than degrade women, promote violence and basically rot the mind. When it first emerged it did have something to say and there may be a few artists left that have a clue. For the most part it is simply mindless, violent, sexist crap.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!! omg.... ur absolutely right. shouldn't americans embrace hip hop and rap as they do things such as baseball and apple pie? hip hop/rap is most definitely an art form and something that is truly and absolutely american. Other than maybe country music, and obviously rap/hip hop, every other genre of popular music is of european influence. as americans i think we should be proud of this amazing truthful and raw musical art that came directly from this country.

I think they should tone done the lyrics some. They say that music sets a mood which makes rap good for dancing. To sit still and listen to that all day is building up pressure that needs to be released and the kids are becoming more and more violent.

I don't hate hip-hop, but I don't like it. It's a personal opinion. It is an art form, but I the reason I listen less and less to it is because it is very sexist and it glorifies a lifestyle. I love the beats, don't get me wrong. But I wish "rappers" would come up with better stuff then girls, sex, bling bling. We heard the same stuff over and over.

I hate hip-hop cause it is the most talentless genre of music. It does not require musical skill of the artist. He/she only has to be able to write lyrics. The producers and sound engineers do the rest. The other genres require musical talent.

I don't care for it, but some songs are cool, but generally i will not listen to it. Say what you will, but rap and hip hop is to self centered. I'm this and i'm that and all that crap, i don't want to hear that stuff, so I don't, i don't like listening to people brag and talk about themselves. Don't talk to me like i'm some sheep and that I should listen to it because its American or whatever. You said it yourself, "it's youth" young people listen to it, young people are dumb and that who buy it. I listen to reggae and hawaiian music mostly, much better, not self centered, much more positive.
