Most of the time when a person threatens suicide, it's a cry for help. And as sad as it may seem, sometimes it's for attention. Talk to your friend, try to find out what the problem is, what is making him/her feel life isn't worth living. Remind your friend of the ones that will be left behind to deal with the guilt of feeling that they failed him/her as a friend. Make yourself available to your friend to talk, more so just to listen. Go with your friend to talk to a pastor, or counselor,or someone they feel they can talk too. Your friend needs to understand that once he/she takes his/her life, it's not like they can wake up tomorrow and say hey, I made a mistake.

make sure you let someone know other than you. I know by personal experence that i told some one but that was it noone else knew, i did try. Please help her understand that there are other options and that suicide is not the answer nothing would be accomplished by doing this. Get her or him some help you cant let them just talk about it do something. I f you are a true friend you will not let this go.

Listen, and urge your friend to get professional help. When a person talks about suicide, it is a cry for help.

Find 'him/her' some help. Call a suicide prevention hotline in your area (you'll find a number in the phone book). They will advise you on what to do. You are a good friend, just continue to support 'her/him'.

You don't say how old you are, but you should take it seriously and talk to an adult you trust and have them help you figure it out. Maybe you could find out what makes them feel so sad and try to help them find better ways to fix the problem.

Talk to a counselor that you trust that he can talk to. Watch ur friend because they may do what they are planning. Be very careful or talk to his family about his plans.
