Ok so at school, I signed up to go on a trip to Paris with a few friends. There was a meeting etc. And so i was really stoked. But the teacher is being stupid and changed it to Rome and Tuscany. Now, it seems to me like Paris has a lot more to do for a group of 16 year old girls, compared to Rome and Tuscany. Am I wrong? and if so, what is there to do that a group of teenaged girls will find interesting? ( by the way, this is the farthest thing from an educational trip, so please do not let that be a factor in your answers.)

** Edit** i was never planning on not going, i just pretty much assumed that Paris would be more exciting than Rome.

Both places are equally fascinating. Rome is older but crazier than Paris, if you're looking for excitement, and I'm an older straight guy but those Italian ragazzi are awfully good-looking, if I can believe my girlfriend.

Rome has the best ruins (of course), ice cream and pizza, while Paris has amazing and inexpensive wine and food. Neither is that pricey, in fact: you can get rooms in the center of town for 60 euros more or less, depending on the season. In London they start at nearly twice that.

Whatever you do, though, do *not* rent a car in either place. I survived, but just barely - the drivers make Mexico look like Des Moines by comparison. The trains are great - the Paris Metro is by far the best in the world for getting around - so don't miss a day or two in Florence, which is an absolute must if you're within 500 miles of it, and Rome is less than 100 miles away.

I don't know what people are talking about as far as rudeness goes. I've been to Paris several times and have had nothing but a good time and friendly people. It definitely helps if you attempt the language, though. Just keep smiling and people will smile back, or at least wonder what you've been up to.

One thing you have to be carfeul of is pickpockets in both places. Don't *ever* carry a purse on a strap, period - it will be gone before you know it. The safest place for valuables is under your clothes and around your waist. And the Gypsies in Rome are ridiculous: they send their kids to surround you if you're not careful.

So don't be disappointed in Rome because it has as much to offer as Paris, in my opinion.

I am not a 16 year old girl, but Rome has plenty to do. Lots of sight seeing, good food, good shopping. Plus, as a whole, from my experience the Italians are friendlier to Americans. The French that I have encountered are very friendly in general, but Parisians seem to have a chip on their shoulder and believe that they are the ultimate arbiters of class and taste. Granted my experience may be an exception rather than the rule, but I kind of doubt it.
