I've never worked for a jewish guy before, this is my first experience and also the worst work related experience I ever had... He's a mega millionaire and I'm a poor broke middle class IT worker... Then he called the unemployment office and reported that I quit the job. What set him off was me asking to be paid since they are over a month late with my paycheck.

Should I refuse to work for another old jewish guy or is this a coincidence? I know it sounds racist, but I can't afford to get ripped off like this.

Go to your local county court and sue him in small claims court (up to 5000).

Then file numerous complaints against him at Better Business Bureau, badbusinessbureau.com.

Also start a website and detail your experiences. Make sure the site pulls up under google etc.

If it isn't because of the employees performance or financial reasons, such as the company is going under, then I think this is very heartless. It could have waited two more weeks. I went through something similar. I was working in an office as a temp. It was a temp to permanent position. They said I was doing a good job. The temp agency also said the company liked me and wanted to extend the contract, eventually making it a permanent position. A month later, a week before Christmas, I was told they didn't need my service any longer. It was hard because I was newly separated and pregnant at the time. I think this is when I began to show and well they probably didn't need to have any issues with new employees.

I'm not Jewish, but you are really being ridiculous in assuming that this person is a poor businessman because he is Jewish. Being Jewish is a religion - it has nothing to do with business. He could have done the exact same thing if he were Catholic, Protestant, Methodist, or Baptist. You are working off a stereotype.

This person is a poor businessman - that's it. You need to find an attorney and sue him for non-payment of wages, and you need to provide proof of that. Employers are required to pay by law, no less than 2 times per month, unless there is a specific contract in place.

You also need to provide proof he fired you - and you should be able to collect unemployment if it is found to be true.

As I said, I'm not Jewish, but I've worked for a Jewish owned business for 22 years and I have NEVER had any issue because my employer is Jewish. Personally, I'm offended that you would assume something so completely ridiculous. A person's religion has nothing to do with their business sense.

Apparently you have no sense at all.

First, contact the department of labor immediately and file a complaint to get paid.

Second, file for unemployment ... if he told them you quit he you can appeal and he should need to provide proof .. a letter of resignation, voluntary termination statement, etc ... if he cant you have a better chance of winning the case ... he cant decide if you get unemployment, the state will decide that.

Lastly, work for a reputable company. I don't think you necessarily have to stay away from older Jewish guys as you stated, just make sure the company is reputable.

Contact the local Wage and Salary Division of the Department of Labor. Your employer has violated the Fair Labor Standards Act.

In addition, contact the Unemployment Office and appeal their decision (based on his lie), giving them the true facts.

You are not being racist, simply ripped off by someone who assumes that you will not do anything to protect your rights. I wonder how many others are in the same situation.

Wow.. You let it go for such a long time! I would have been on that tight @ss right after the 2nd week! You need to file a complaint with the Dept of Labor. Then get in touch with the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint there, as well! You can also get in touch with your state rep. and let him know what kind of shrewd screws there are out there, ripping innocent employees off! If you get no where with that, and it takes a while for them to investigate, I would find an attorney with B@lls and sent him after him. You are too little...you need BIG people in your corner. What a creep~and his religion fits him~nothing personal, to those of you out there, that are of that faith. Good Luck and Go Get 'Em!

His being Jewish has nothing to do with your case, so drop that angle if you hope to win anything out of this. He is in violation of the law for not paying you and for reporting you had quit when in fact you did not. Go to the employment office and explain to them what happened and ask what your options are. At the very least the authorities should be interested in your case, and threatening to sue him might get you your paycheck. Make sure you get accrued vacation & sick time, too.

Okay THIS HAPPENED TO MY HUSBAND!!!
He didn't get paid for 2 months of drywalling!! He kept telling us he couldn't pay us until he got paid for the houses. We had to go to small claims court, but there was no proof that he worked for him, it was a bad deal! GET A LAWYER! GOOD LUCK!!

call your state labor department -- there are very strict laws regarding payment to employees. It has nothing to do with the man being Jewish.
