I keep finding it hard to believe that the target of the Twin Towers was against the American people. That target was chosen as it stood for money, power and the people in power. If the terrorists were against the American people why not the Statue of Liberty?

Some of your answers indicate that answering this would give perspective terrorists ideas but isn't that what Hollywood does all the time with their movies on terrorist plots. Hitting the Whitehouse would again be striking the people in power and not really American Citizens. Hitting Disneyland Park might hurt citizens but not the people in power or those holding the oil cartels or the money sacks!

to Buttercup, I don't think the terrorists on the planes or those who thought up the hits knew those buildings would collapse like a deck of cards. They were not bright enough or architects or mechanical engineers.

To Papi Culo, Mommy always thought you were smart but alas she was wrong, anyone who believes in Lezbollah should not be throwing stones at those who ask questions like this, you moron, think beyond the tv.

to Phil 08194 yeah and look what that created, more deaths to American and allied forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. The News Hour showed 20 more US soldier deaths today, that spurred me to write this question. Most of those soldiers were around 22 years old, how old are you and would you be satisfied if your life ended today? They deserved more than to die over something like this.

Perhaps, but there were a few American people in those buildings if I remember rightly.
I would have some other ideas of targets, which would be pretty terrorizing, but I am not willing to give any crazy jerk some ideas.

The terrorist chose the Twin Towers because that stood for the economics of the US. They thought if they crippled that then we would be in disarray but they were wrong. It brought us closer . The Statue of Liberty would have a impact on us but not like the towers because of the devastation. You kill more people in those towers then you would have in the statue. If they had gotten to the capital building it would be the same result as the towers. The Pentagon was to cripple the military, which it did not. The terrorist of the world learned one thing on 9/11, You may hurt us but you can not defeat us. You may knock us down but we will always get up. You may run & hide but we will hunt you to the ends of the earth

The terrorists had to start somewhere. They got over 3000
people with just one target....wouldn't have been that many
in the Statue of Liberty. And, they missed one of their main
targets (if you've been following this) which was the home
of the President of the United States, the White House. I'm
sure if Pres. Bush hadn't put all the security in place at
airports, subways, etc. that it would not have been long before
more and more targets would have been successfully destroyed.

Any target in the U S would put America into a panic and so hurt the American people. You guys kill more citizens and visitors in your country in a matter of months than did the 9/11 attack. Americans are allowed guns, they have a great many guns in the general population, one might think that yours is a safe country because of all the guns the citizens have but it is in fact one of least safe 'developed' countries on the face of the planet if not the least safe, espeacially the western countries. Your thought that the target was 'power' and 'money' is correct in my opinion - they were making a statement. and you guys heard it.

Well, they did try to hit the U.S. Capitol, but failed.
Combined with the Pentagon and World Trade Center, those are the Political, Military, and Economic Centers of the United States.
Blowing up the Statue of Liberty would be a **** move, but it wouldn't really hurt anybody (except perhaps the tourists visiting it). And hurting people is the point of terrorism.

If the terrorist wanted to kill Americans then they would have taken flights that deported an hour or two later so that most would have been at work and not on their way into work when the planes hit the towers.

The twin towers was chosen to hurt us economically.
But don't forget there where two other planes. One partially hit the
Pentagon. the other was to hit the White House. The fourth
plane contained no liberals on the passenger list.
Thank you very much, while you're up

GOd you people cant be for real.. you have got to be trolls...

When Osama Bin-Ladin took credit for 9/11, he stated specifically that his attack was against the U.S, and his aim was to hurt the U.S economy. Hence the target was a business center AND the major airlines in the U.S. SO YES; THE MUSLIM TERRORISTS DID WANT TO HURT AMERICANS!

Those men would have hit anything they could hit but they wanted the largest target they could find to get all the attention they could get!
That's why they hit the Twin Towers!
