I have a Genie high end screw-drive opener. One that goes up real quick. I've had nothing but problems with my door getting stuck and now two of my pannels bowed (I think because of the high force). Should I go with another screw drive? Regular chain drive? Anybody had problems with a fast moving opener tearing up their door?

The words "Genie" and "High End" don't really go together. I would do a little research, but LiftMasters (www.liftmaster.com) are the best openers out there. Good Housekeeping approved and all that. Chain, belt (my preference), or screw drive will do just fine. You'll find the belt drives to be much more quiet, and most have at least a 10 year warranty on the belt -some with a lifetime belt warranty.

As for the current problem with your opener, if the door panels buckled, is it usually due to a lock of proper reinforcement on the door where the bracket attaches. Your door likely had a bit of binding, or the door springs were not adjusted to carry the weight of the door as they are designed to do. All openers need to feel some kind of resistance in order to stop running before damage is done. If the panels were not reinforced enough, they likey buckled before enough resistance was detected by the opener. Unfortunately, once the panels are creased, they pretty much have to be replaced. I would recommend you call a local garage door company, and see if they can cut you a "package deal" to install a new opener and a new door, or at least replace the damaged panels.

You can always contact Genie, and file a damage claim for the damaged panels, by the way. Since the opener may have contributed to the damage, they may be willing to pay part or all of the cost of repairs.

We have a Lift-master and we like it fine. We replaced a cheap piece of poop called Marantec. The Marentec was really sloooowwww and couldn't be adjusted to speed up. I am not handy with garage doors openers so I had a door opener company come out. The motors are guaranteed for life so I can always call the company to come service it. It's chain drive. It works for me but if you are a DIYer I don't know what brand.....

sounds like your out of adjustment and your door might be off track or binding in the track. You should go over the whole thing and look for problems. Somebody drive into the track? Rollers lost their bearings. stop distance off on opener?
Release the door and lift it up and down manually. Is it smooth?

We have a Genie w/ a worm gear and it does fine. I wouldn't call it real fast, though... maybe "fast" is the problem.
