I'm planning a cross country roadtrip and when trying to estimate my hotel cost, I need to know when is the earliest I can check into a hotel before they charge me for the previous night?

Ex. If I check in at 4am and stay one night, will I be charged for 1 night or 2?
If I check in at noon, same question. If I check in at 11:30pm, will they charge me for that night?

You should be able to check in anytime if there is a clean room available. I work for a hotel and we do everything we can to accommodate our guest. Call the hotel and request an early check in and they will (or we do) make a note so the first clean room that comes up they will pre assign it to you! Good Luck Oh and we dont charge if you check in early either ask the desk agent TRUST ME we have heard it all and we will tell you the truth if you are going to be charged for an additional night

Generally check in time is 3 PM and check out time is 11 AM. You may be able to make special arrangements with a hotel that would better meet your needs. You will be charged for the entire day anytime you check in after 3 PM and any day you check out after 11 AM you will be charged for that entire day.

depends on the hotel, and how busy they are. If a hotel is slow and they have open rooms, they can often let a guest have early check-in, possibly before noon. If you are a frequent guest of the chain that might help as well. If they are full up, you will likely have to wait until normal check in time (usually around 3pm) in order to get into your room.

We checked into a Motel at 6:00 AM and was only charged for that night. Call or ask before signing in. Hotels may be more strict than Motels and each may have sightly different rules which may depend on if it is a weekday or weekend.

This varies. Usually it says 4, but sometimes (espescially if you are staying more than one night) you can check in at 10 or 11 if they have a clean room.
