Good Lord and Moses, or are you talking about the Black People here in America? There were white slaves too. What year?
The white slaves were wards, and slaves with ownership papers. Women were the most enslaved people ever black or white or green. Between the North and the South all kinds of people freed the Blacks be it South or North.(do you remember Schindler's list? not all Germans were bad little nazis either), Some southern plantation owners were very good people. All and all there were many that stayed behind as well because they did not know the terraine and what to expect in another place.(also were given rights to property there if they won the war and some were loyal to the people that helped them). Sometimes the ownership of a slave protected them from being strung, because the perpetrator would be hung for destroying another mans property) The same went for their women, if a man did not have a ownership of that woman and he molested her they would string him up). Women would be traded for horses or cattle. True enough many escaped through an underground railroad and then what put in the military to die an unknown by the northern troops isolated into a black brigade of soldiers. Like the Brits did with the Irish?
Research the truth and then you will know they need to be more specific about the questions and stop trying to blame people for what was done by a corrupt situation, caused by bigotry, guns, money and immoral people.

The Underground Railroad .
Despite the name, the Underground Railroad was not really a railroad, but was a network of people who assisted fugitive slaves. Many fugitives who escaped to the North and Canada received assistance along the way from individuals who were involved in this network. By the early 19th century, the organization became so successful that it is estimated that between 1810 and 1850, 100,000 slaves escaped from the South through the Underground Railroad.
