Hi! I have 4 kids! Anyways, I always make sure I have lots of receiving blankets, baby wash clothes, undershirts, socks, diaper wipes and Vaseline, baby sleepers and breast pads! I only ever bought 1 bag of newborns size diapers when expecting a baby, because I found that they grow so fast, they only need one bag for 2 weeks. I changed them every 2 hours, unless they needed to be changed in between. My last child was only 5pounds14ounces at birth, so he went through 4 or 5 bags a month of new born sized diapers in his first 4 months. Make sure you have an infant car seat, a crib, stroller( if you like to walk or shop) Where I live in British Colombia, the hospital wont allow you to leave with the baby unless you have an appropriate infant car seat. Stocking up on all sized diapers is great! Especially size3. Every mom I know, even me, always stocks on 3's! Babies seem to stay in that size longer!! ENJOY YOUR NEW BABY!

Besides the normal: crib, car seat, stroller, swing, changing table or pads: Make sure you have plenty of crib sheets and waterproof pads and a waterproof mattress cover. Don't stock up on diapers cuz you don't know if you'll need preemie, newborn or size 1 ( My daughter and son were both in size 1 diapers at birth). I would buy a small pack of newborn diapers and a small one of size 1. Once he is born you can go buy more depending on what size he is in. Stock up on wipes!!!!!!! Make sure you have things like gas relief drops, infant Motrin and dropper, nail clippers, that thing used to suck the boggies from the baby's nose. If you are gonna bottle feed: get bottles and nipples and if you plan on putting them in dishwasher get a little caddy designed for them to go in. A baby bath tub and foam thingy to go into the bath tub for newborn baby. I never used baby towels because they don't seem warm enough so you probably don't need lots of those. I guess the big thing to stock up on is wipes... I use them for everything. Baby's bottom, spit up, my clothes, hands, and face etc. Also, a wipe warmer is great when baby is newborn. I think I covered everything I found important when my kids were born. Hope this helped.
Note: dont stock up on clothes because your baby probably wont be in them for too long. I would suggest getting a couple sleepers (a few with zipper and a few drawstring ones - which were great for changing diapers) for 0-3 months and 3-6 months.
Oh yeah: baby powder, diaper rash cream, vapor rub for babies, body wash that can be used as shampoo (makes it easier), sanitzer for your hands after changing of diaper, diaper genie!!!. I had two daiper bags for my kids. One large one and one small that always had diapers/wipes/cream/sanitizer/powder/ change of clothes/burp cloth (I used the trial size powder and cream that I got at my baby shower). That way, If I was just going to the store I could grab the small one and it would have everything I needed and if I was going out for a good part of the day I had teh large one that carried more diapers and two changes of clothes.

Vaseline. My advice to all mothers. Some use powder, but after you clean your baby's bottom you will need to smear vaseline all over bum and area. This helps repel water and dirt from your babys skin onto the diaper.
The leading cause of diaper rash is wetness.
Also the vaseline will help you wipe the poop off easier.
----
That said, you'll need tons of diapers, formula and bottles and have them sterilized before the little one comes, you will want some easy meals when your little one arrives. Consider making a few dishes like lasagna or cod au gratin or something and freeze servings for you and your husband. Sometimes it's hard to get anything done with a little one.
---
Also, before your due date try and stock up on lots of fruit and vegetables..all the healthy foods you'll wanna snack on when you dream of dropping those pregnancy pounds :)
-------
More advice: Have your car seat installed by a professional at a car seat clinic or at your local mother-baby or pregnant moms group. They will teach you how to correctly use it. This is incredibly important. I think only 1 in 12 are installed properly..you owe this to your child :)

when pg with my daughter i bought loads of stuff and some she has never used or worn.
try to stick to the basics for now and then if you need anything else you can always buy after the birth. heres a list of the thing i think are essentials.
pram/pushchair
car seat
bath
vest and bodysuits
blankets
crib/moses basket/cot
baby towels
bottles and breat pump (if bottle feeding and/or breastfeeding)
sterilizer
baby monitor
also stock up on nappies, wipes and baby shampoos bubble bath and bath wash. also baby sponge.
and if you see anything that you think would benefit you or your baby then buy it.
hope this helps

I saw that a lot of people put diapers, but remember not to buy a bunch of newborn diapers, cause the baby will outgrow them in about 2-3 weeks and you don't want to be stuck with a bunch of newborn diapers! I got 2 packs of newborn and then like 3 packs of size one and then just bought as needed!

Desitin diaper rash ointment saved my butt (okay, my son's actually) on multiple occasions. Can't be beat.
Diapers, sleeper blankets, Wet Ones....
A baby thermometer. A small eyedropper to retrieve boogers (I'm not joking). It would be a good idea to have a couple of bottles of Pedialyte on standby for when he has trouble keeping stuff down. It's baby Gatorade.
Toys are not a big deal. He's going to be boring and not do much at first.
Good luck :)

With my first baby i stocked up on alot of nappies, wipes, body wash, powder, soap, bottles, formula (in case i could breast feed and it turn out i couldn't), towels (it is always good to have extras), your own toiletries, toilet paper and washing powder cause you will be doing a bit of washing. Good luck. As you are getting these things together anything else you think you might need will come to you. It is always better to be over prepared then under prepared

a good quality pram, somewhere to sleep. get a lot of cheap baby sleepsuits as you will use alot of them! and nappies. but i would keep your cash till you have given birth. many people will give you gifts of nappies clothes and blankets.
tip: buy suits with no feet as they will last longer and just buy matching socks or booties. they will last till hes too big round the middle! rather than too long.
