It is a documented fact that many Muslim women who leave their own country often do so with someone else's passport as no official would even dare suggest they unveil at that end. In these days of heightened security, non Muslim countries have procedures, and veiled persons are asked to step aside to be seen in a secluded booth by a lady inspector. Just to make sure that they are not discriminatory they haul in a few persons like a tall, blonde, blue eyed, bare headed, fifty something lady whom I know who was pulled out of the queue at JFK...no less than four times (Check in with luggage (once), passport controls (twice), hand luggage (once) and that was before the recent scares and London bombings...An obvious candidate for suspicion.

Your passport phote should have nothing obscuring the face even glasses. So how can a vieled woman hope to look anything like the picture of the unveiled woman in the passport she is carrying. She will have to lift the viel so customs can verify he likeness to the passport.
I would not be allowed to wear a Darth Vader mask either on my passport or as I travelled through customs even though I declared my religion as Jedi at the last census.

God - sorry Allah..I pity the poor customs officer who has that Job.. As soon as they are asked to remove their Veil - they stick their hands up and start Wailing...& making this awful shreiking noise...kind of chanting .. next thing you know an "adviser" and Human rights Lawyer, closely followed by a TV crew.. appear from nowhere and ..get the customs officer suspened for Racial Abuse.

Because they can. They can walk into shops wearing them, too. But when we walk in wearing a hood, we have to remove them. I disagree with JimboBimbo, though. Wearing glasses is a necessarity. I need to wear them, because I am short-sighted. Lots of people have to. Unlike the veil.

I believe the ladies are asked aside into another room and asked to show their face as your passport photogragh has to show a face and not be obscured by a veil.
Just for your information you don't need to do that for bus passes!

at the passport control the ladies with the vail have to go with a female custom officer and show their identity. I have experienced it serveral times on my journies abroad and back to this country.

good Q.. how do they oh well everyone to their own but interesting .. is that why they are introducing Iris scans ...and its mostly woman in check ins and don't believe they do easily just like the rest of us match your photo ..with or without ..
