I have spent much time in every part of Florida - Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Melbourne, Orlando, Fort Meyers, Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater, Jacksonville, Daytona, and even Pensacola....
My advice, and where I would live if I moved to Florida, comes down to 2 areas basically:
FIRST CHOICE - West Palm Beach and anywhere between W. Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale/Dade County line. If you like Miami and that's the lifestyle you are looking for, then you'll love Broward and Palm Beach Counties, because they have the same Miami "flavor" with a LOT less of the crime. West Palm, Ft Lauderdale, etc. are an easy drive to Miami, so you can still go and party in Miami whenever you want, but Miami is either a dangerous place to live or it's VERY expensive to live somewhere "safe". Sometimes it's very expensive and still dangerous. Aside from Miami though there is PLENTY to enjoy in the area from West Palm Beach down to Fort Lauderdale. That would be my #1 choice. (Check out a town called Lake Worth, and also Deerfield Beach).
MY SECOND CHOICE would be the Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater area. I would live in the Tampa area, myself, but if you must have beach then consider St. Pete or Clearwater. Treasure Island is a nice part of St. Pete and is all beach. Tampa has a lot to do also, great nightlife, great food and activities, and it's a very pretty city. Orlando is only about an hour's drive away, so you can always escape to a theme park easily for a change of scenery. From Tampa you can also drive south and you will find some of the nicest beaches on the Southwest coast of Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico.
Anyway, those are my recommendations - best of luck to you!!! :)

There are some really nice areas in Broward County which is just north of Miami/Dade. Tamarac and Sunrise are very nice, safe and much cheaper than most other areas. They are part of Ft. Lauderdale which has a lot of fun things to do, close to the beach and a fairly good opportunity for employment. Go to their chamber of commerce web sites and check them out. They can send you info on all aspects of the area.

Kissimmee is a great location to live and it's only 20 minutes away from Disney. If you like to shop, you will be minutes away from the outlets and lots of malls. The houses there are large open floor plans. Beautiful homes and apartments. Hope this helps.

I agree with the guy who said Orlando. I live there and also a little less expensive but with all the perks is Kissimmee. Close to just about everything.

I would recommend Tampa, St. Pete, Clearwater, Indian Rocks areas.
Look on rent.com for ideas of how much you will pay.
I used to live in Clearwater and I loved it there. If you move there then make sure you go to the Early Bird Dinner Theatre its so cute! Look them up on line!

Except for the theme parks, Orlando is duller than dirt. Broward County (Ft. Ldle) is slightly cheaper than Dade. You could try Tampa.

before you move there, make sure it's what you want. I moved to Fl in Jan of this year and hated it. I just came back to Mass last month. Obviously, everyone is different, but for me it was a big mistake. Make sure it's what you really want.
