I have lots of experience at these kinds of competitions and have won 15 out of 15 that I have competed in...Stay away from the slow ballad as it will only put people to sleep...High energy is the key to success because the crowd plays off of that and you will get a much better response. I don't know what type of voice you have so can only give you general idea's...Songs that worked for me are Walk this way(Aerosmith), Born to be wild(steppenwolf). Find a band where you can sound close to the singer and pick a popular up beat song... Good Luck and have fun with it.

chances are that you don't share my taste in music, so i advise you to just pick a song that you like that is within your vocal range. make sure that your audience will like it, too, and that it isn't boring.
