France and Great Britain fought for control of the Ohio Valley and Parts of Canada. The Huron and Algonquin Indians allied with the French, the Iroquois Indians allied with the British. The war lasted from sometime in 1756 to 1763. The British were considered to be the winners, though it was never a complete victory. ( France still controlled the Louisiana Territory) The British did however gain control of much of the disputed area. The french lost territories in the Ohio Valley and parts of Canada including parts of Pennsylvania, New york and Quebec.
It ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1763 with France giving up all of it's claims to lands east of the Mississippi River. France also gave up all claims to all of Canada to the British, so it would seem that indeed the British were the big winners in that war. It also spilled over into Europe where the French gave up it's claims to India with the signing of that same treaty.
Oddly enough George Washington fought on the side of the British as I believe, but don't quote me, a Colonel in the British Army. Ironic as it might seem it was the French who came to the rescue of Washington when he battled the British in the 1770's. Wars hell isn't it?

Yes, the British (and colonies) and French were the fighters in the French and Indian War, but the French and Indian war was the North American leg of a triple war. In Europe many countries participated (I think it was England and Prussia vs. France, Austria, maybe Spain) and England and France in India.
