Coral are in phylum Cnidaria.

In biology last week we learned that the organisms responsible for the creation of coral reefs are a type of protist. They are in the kingdom Alveolata, are dinoflagellates, and are called zooxanthellae. I'm not really sure what their phylum is, but that should make things easier!
