We have three showers and only one does this. If the water is turned off and we wait for a minute and retry, it's warm again for 30 seconds and goes cold again, so each time it's turned on it's hot only for a short time.
Please give detailed info about what you think maybe the problem and what you think we can do.
The faucet is a single turn that has the same pressure, but goes from cold to hot as you turn counter clockwise.
Also the sink in the same bathroom works perfectly.

not sure if this is a scaldguard faucet you may have to adjust the setting. if not, i have seen a couple times where a piece of debri,(like solder or flux chunk), can be in pipe leading to faucet and when calling for water ,(faucet on), can lodge into washer, when not calling can drop back down into pipe till opened again, (no pressure). and before you ask yes even a washerless faucet has washers. its a spring and washer cup. turn off water and take off handle and pull out cartridge, check the spring and washer its a good practice to change these at this point, always hard to tell if bad unless you know what you're looking for. but since they are very inexpensive just replace them.before you put in new ones, have someone turn on water slowly with cartridge out and see if good flow thru both holes, if yes and nothing comes out replace cartridge with new one. should solve problem. remember when you go for parts always write down name brand of faucet and take with you to store.

Sounds as though your hot water line may be partially (almost completely ?) plugged somewhere back along the line. If this is new construction, be aware that a partially plugged pipe may have been used in the pipeing process. I recall once many years ago that someone had very carefully stuffed some one-half inch copper FULL of plastic film and when that section of pipe was installed in a shower which I had built, I experienced the exact same thing as you describe!! I was forced to remove the faucet and extract the plastic, bits at a time with a pair of needle-nose pliers!!!
No kidding.

Sounds like something is blocking the hot water inside the faucet. Turn the water supply off and remove the faucet. You should be able to get a repair kit for it at the hardware store. Be sure to take make and model numbers with you.

the washer in the facet is lose. In the hot water handle there is a valve stem. when you turn it, it moves a rubber washer away from the Seat. witch allows the water to flow through. When the water heats up this rubber it will swell just a little and shut your hot water off. turn it off and the will shrink. remove the valve stem and replace the 10 cent washer. this is done from the frunt. Turn water off to the foset. there should be a water shut off valve some where in the house. Remove cap on handle, remove screw, handle will come off, get a large deep well socket. slip down stem and use pliers to turn stem.. ( o yes, open the handle first). the local hardware store will have the washer for the stem. Screw driver is all you need for the washer.

you may need a plumber for this one. there is a balance installed
in most one handled tub mixers. they are designed as an anti-scald guard (so you don't get burned by too hot water). they do need replacing after some time or checked for hard water deposits. if you feel that you are up to replace this, which in all
honesty ain't really that hard, you can e-mail me. just try to get the type of tub fixture you have and how long it has been installed.
