It depends on if they have narcissistic personality disorders, and if they have inadequacy and control issues. The military screens potential soldiers pretty well for such disorders. It would be a bad idea to have a bunch of narcissistic guys with guns running around, and no one would trust them to have ther back. They wouldn't be able to take or follow orders, either. They would be a liability.

Sometimes (rarely) someone develops such personality disorders over time, and their behavior gets overlooked and until they do something really serious. And then, of course, the news gets ahold of it and makes it seem like it happens all the time. Most often, these things get noticed as a person's behavioe changes, when they start to display bad judgment, or when they show they cannot be trusted. Soldiers need to trust that the next guy has got their back. And soldiers need to be trusted to have their platoon's interest in mind, and not their own personal agenda, especially when operating multi-million dollar equipment. The percentage that falls through the cracks is low.

Most men (both military and civillian) prefer to feel more manly and powerful by choosing to reduce women by stereotyping them, objectifying them, and discriminatind against them, and acting like they are ornaments, decorations, and that they exist to validate the man's ego. That's probably because it is used by the media and advertisers, most people excuse that behavior as publicly acceptable.

But for someone to directly hurt someone, they would have to have extreme narcissism (their personal agenda trumps the rights of others).

It would be a mistake to assume that all men are potential rapists, and it would imply that one who did assume that, was harboring a moving van full of baggage.

As far as the group thing, read a sociology book about groupthink, individuation, mass hysteria, rioting/looting, brainwashing, frat-hazing, The Skinner-box psychological study, and status anxiety. Collective behavior is a fascinating phenomenon.........just think about our last presidential election.

Military men see lots of women, since there are many more women in the military these days. And shhhh....don't tell anyone, but some of these guys are not even attracted to women.

Depends on what kind of movies they watch, and what web sites they are on, what drug are they on or what alchohol they drink on a normal basis This would go for any group of males. This culture has just about hit the edge. They have been cynicized. Things not good 20 years ago, are now ok today beacuse there has been so much our society now allows. Remember ban the bra in the 60's? Thats when we really started downhill. Would you have seen a womans breast on TV at a football game 20 years ago duiring a halftime show? I think not. Think about the culture you live in now. Is Sex a big part of the picture now? Have women degraded themselves to the point that their body is not sacred anymore? Do you think the female, as they are depicted by themselves today had anything to do with what your talking about? Think the answer is yes so what's next? Everyone of the men you are talking about should be spending time behind bars for a long time, because their mental attitude hasn't grown out of puburty yet! Sorry, but I got mad that this would even be a question someone would even have to ask! I must be getting old thank GOD!

All humans have the potential for violence, which is what rape is REALLY about in most cases. But I don't think all men are potential rapists, due to personality, beliefs, upbringing and so on. My father was a devout Catholic and would NEVER have forced himself on a woman, not under any circumstances. I know many men who I think probably would rape but HAVE, especially date rate. But I also know many who would NOT rape, even in extreme situations.

As for the Rape of Nanking being "worse than the Holocaust", that's ridiculous, since thousands of women, children and yes, men were ALSO raped by the Nazis BEFORE being tortured and gassed!

One thing I think IS true is that the number of rapes is on the rise, just like other violent crimes. Our society is going down the toilet!

Well, if you have read the book the Rape of Nanking, and you could if you wanted to find out about the male psyche and rape, its about a big forgotten holocaust held in China. Japanese soldiers murdered and rape thousadns of civilians and much worse in a record amount of time. This was much worse than the holocaust. The author goes into why the Japanese soldiers had become so brutal and vicious, in the book one of the chapters goes into the rapes of cthe civilians. It's by Iris CHang. Remember that Japan's people are not evil and cruel but less than 100 years ago their soldiers were

All men are potential rapists. All women are potential rapists. That doesn't mean they will or they are.

People can do whatever they want, hopefully they know better to not go down that path. It's the same with everything else.

Nobody usually is made to do anything in this world.

I don't think ALL men have this potential. It does not just have to do with sexual desire. Rape is more of a power issue. Rapists tend to be men that have issues with power and control, and they feel the need to dominate someone. And rape is the ultimate form of domination. So I think if a man does not have issues with power, he wouldn't be predisposed to rape.

That is the most assanine thing I've heard in a while. To generalize the Male Sex into a rapists is retarded. No doubt men commit rape something like 99.9% more than females, but to say we are all potential rapists. Screw you lady.

Nothing negative about my answer here.....I think both men and women and even animals are born with the "potential" to be anything...even a rapist....

i suppose, given they are in a horrid state of mind and a horrid place at the same time, men COULD potentially be rapists. but, hey, equality for all. women could just as easily. and you've seen those crazy pushy women, havent you? one out over every 10 rape victims is a male by a woman.
