I think you have to use iTunes, because if you don't have the software, your computer won't recognize what it is. I could be wrong though.

You have to use iTunes to put songs on your iPod, but you can allocate space on your iPod for other types of files (or even music files, but they won't play).

You can take songs from ANY source and import them into iTunes, and then of course put them on your iPod.

You have to go through itunes. And if you have any files that aren't on itunes you just drag and drop them into it.

you may make some associates on-line with chinese human beings, in case you opt for some chinese music ,you may ask them to move to you on line. Drag them contained in the iTunes and sync for your iPod.

There are other ways, but they are not straight forward. There are programs like Ipod access that allow you better access to your ipod.
You can also use other OS's Like linux. SUSE Linux is very user friendly for the Ipod.

IPod Access:

Or just google "suse and ipod" or "linux and ipod"

iTunes is free. It's best if you use iTunes. There are plugins for WinAMP and Foobar, but you don't sound experienced enough to use them.
