No, genuises are not usually insane. But they can be eccentric (meaning a little odd or quirky). Think of it this way. People whose intelligence is at the genuis level are out of the "normal" range. So, strictly speaking, they are abnormal. Most people would think that being abnormally smart is a good thing, but it can also make it difficult for them to share the interests of regular people. They may see the world in a different way. It can make them socially awkward, so they may come across as kind of strange. But insane? Not usually.

Some geniuses are insane like there was this one guy who had no social skills due to the fact the he had been isolated from the rest of the kids because his parents wanted to make him smarter. So, when he grew older, he would speak at conventions and laugh hysterically for no reason and sometimes not speak at all. I guess that may be a price you have to pay to become a genius but he later disowned his parents because he felt that they corrupted him and ruined his life. He never used any of the money his father gave to him in his father's will.

I worked at a nursing home once and one of the residents there had a genius I.Q......was on the very last stage of getting his degree to be a lawyer......on the night before his "bar test" or something....he lost it.....never was the same.....I remember he was soo intelligent....but very silent....you could ask him a question....he would just stare at you or sometimes.....he would talk and not stop, and use words that even Webster's dictionary could not define....so yes, this is sad, but I think very true....
