When pregnant many women experience light bleeding or 'spotting' around the time of their period, which is caused by the hormonal fluctuations in their body. This is not a period however; a period is whent he lining of the uterus falls away because it is not needed to support a fertilised egg until birth, clearly this is not the case when pregnant.

The bleeding that can occur during pregnancy can sometimes be mistaken for the period, which is how come some people do not know until labour that they are carrying. Spotting during pregnancy should be light and clott-free though, so not quite like a period - any pregnant woman experiencing heavy, dark or clotted bleeding should go to see a dr immediately, especially if there is pain associated with the bleed.

Best wishes,

tasha

You can be pregnant, and have some bleeding from the pregnancy (threatened miscarriage). this may look like a period, but isn't. If the pregnancy test is positive, that means you are pregnant, get a scan to see if they can see anything. If not, it is possible that you have had a miscarriage instead of a period. However, they will need to do a follow up scan or a pregnancy hormone blood test to check that you are not just very early in pregnancy.

Technically you cant have a period when pregnant ..its called a bleed and is a danger to the pregnancy, some women bleed when they don't know they are pregnant and think it was a period. The blood loss is usually lighter than normal and only lasts for a day or two. This happened to a Friend of mine but she thought she might be pregnant so did a test that was positive. Her GP had told her she couldn't be!8 months later she had a bouncing baby boy.

Yes. You period stopping is no indication that you are pregnant. Some woman have very normal periods throughout the pregnancy. Just one of those things. Doesn't do any harm to the mother or the child.

Even after pregnancy some bleeding may occur. This is not regular periods but due to hormone imbalance or minor uterus problems. You have to see the doctor follow his guidelines to retain the baby.

yes you can still have a period and still be pregnant, but i do suggest you see your dr/nurse about it just to be sure, any pain associated with it should also be checked. The body is a strange thing and nothing is ever simple.
