Listening to sad music when your sad why?

Why is it that when couples break up or get into a fight that they always want to listen to sad songs. Why torture yourself with it?

because is a easy way to cry...when u sad or mad u have to let the emotion go..u need to cry and let go all the **** u got inside..and slow music is a good way to cry for a long time..is a good way to fall sleep, after been cry u sleep like a baby....

certain...If i'm truly unhappy I many times pay interest to unhappy music. yet when that is because i have were given a nasty effect in a try or because of a gown/skirt i'll't purchase, I watch an episode of Charmed or the X-information or Beverly Hills 90210 (the former one for sure).

They do it because it helps them through the hard times, knowing that other people have gone through the same things that they have.
It's just a source of comfort which a lot of people seem to use.
It's a sense of belonging & knowing that you aren't the only one who goes through hard times, that there are other people who go through it, or have had it worse then you. So it teaches you to be grateful for what you do have.
That's what I find anyway.

Because sometimes it puts a physical marker of sorts on a person's feelings and helps them to either feel better or move on because it helps them to own the emotions involved in breakups.
