Thats totally up to the client your selling this stuff to. If your company is registered then get these clients to talk to someone higher than you who can give a registration number to the company (if they have one), or give them landline information such as a phonenumber they can ring (not a mobile/cell - it must be a landline) and give them an address (a street address with the name of the company) as well that way the customer can follow it up and check it out.

You might be only doing your job but i totally understand how the customer feels. Asking for a credit card over the phone can and will be invasive and if they want to give their credit card numbers but dont want to give it on the phone then they should be given other alternatives to pay it. Getting credit card numbers over the phone can be potentially dangerous to a customer and you must respect their decision regardless. If someone asked me for mine on the phone? NO WAY would i give it out. Thats like me handing them my wallet for the taking.

Don't force them. If they are reluctant to give the information, even if your boss is breathing down your neck. NEVER, NEVER force anyone to "give up" that data. A direct debit, what no way would I ever agree to that. Have companies lost their collective minds?

I no longer give my personal info. I would rather not have the product that give my data to a stranger.

Are you familiar with Identity Theft? I know you have a job to do. I need a new mobile phone, but, don't want to talk to someone over the phone to order it. Nor, do I trust those kids at the phone stores . . . so I guess I will keep may very, very old heavy cellphone, until I find something on QVC or HSN that I like!

Shouldn't you be asking your managers this question?
If you call a customer they should be hesitant. Offer to send them a form for them to return or give them the number to call you back so they can know for sure what company you're with.

No one in their right mind would ever give out that information to any incoming call. Only when they call out to a reputable number that they know is legitimate will people give out that information. There are a lot of others that won't even do that.

It is 2006...no one should give that info over the phone. Even if you are legit company, people just shouldnt give that info over the phone...its too risky.
