Because he governed for the people. He was lookijng for solutions to the people's problems after the great depression, in stead of finding ways of using the people's problems to further his own personal agenda. In other words, he was a servant.

Although I think FDR was a good President, his legislation did relatively little to get this country out of a depression...in fact, we were in a severe depression. The only reason this country got out of the depression was because of our involvement in WWII. FDR was a good President because he wanted this country to get involved in WWII from the very beginning, but the people in this country wouldn't allow it. That's why he was a good President, because he saw a problem and genuinely wanted to fix it, even though not all of his methods worked, he sincerely worked for the betterment of society.

He gave Americans hope through the Great Depression, then he led us into winning World War II. Much of our victory resulted from his strong leadership uniting us to do our part. We had to use so much of our personal resources, and he helped us be willing to sacrifice. Many thousands of our soldiers died in battle, but we kept on fighting.

well if I remember correctly... he started during the great depression... and almost lead us all the way through WWII... including Pearl Harbor... so it was the greatest financial failure in American history that he fixed and retaliated against maybe the greatest attack against America, and won, in American history...
pretty impressive stuff if you ask me...
