the reason i ask this question is because cingular prepaid phones you have to be on a plan when you might as well get a contract phone. and verizon prepaid phones come with free nights and weekends and mobile to mobile without being on a certain plan.

Cingular is better

I think you may be confusing the various Cingular prepaid options. If you get the Pay As You Go, there is no monthly charge. You simply buy your refill as needed and use it up. You can get a Pay As You Go with free mobile-to-mobile, but there is a $1 daily surcharge in addition to the per-minute charges.

The Pick Your Plan that Cingular offers, on the other hand, seems rather pointless other than to free you from a contract. The per-minute rate is pretty high so it looks like you are basically paying a premium for free nights and weekends.

Verizon probably has better quality of coverage of all the providers, but I find their prepaid plans to be among the priciest on a per-minute basis.

If you are serious about prepaid, T-Mobile offers a very competitive rate: $0.10/min if you buy the $100 refill and account expiration lasts a year. Both Cingular and T-Mobile allow you to rollover unused minutes when you refill. I haven't ever used Verizon prepaid myself.

Well Verizon Wireless Prepaid actually does require a plan. Currently there are three that you can get.....The first one is called Inpulse. You get Unlimited Nights, but not weekends, and free mobile to mobile. You are charged .99 a day even if you do not use the phone, and .10 a minute. The lowest payment that you can put on the account is 15.00. The next plan is the Easy Pay 50. You pay $50 every month. You get 3000 night and weekend minutes, and Unlimited mobile to mobile. You pay .14 per minute. Then the last plan is Easy pay 70. It is the same as the Eassy pay 50 except you have to pay $70 every month and you only pay .10 a minute. I hope this helps!!! I don't know anything about Cingular though!!!
