Good question. The Baltic area is considered eastern Europe.

Here is one for you:
How do you define the borders of Europe:
A. geographic?
B. economic?
C. political?
D. ethnically?

The borders are not the same!!

Northeastern geographically.

Politically, since it became a member of European Union, Lithuania along with Latvia and Estonia are considered as bridge between Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. These three countries are reffered to as Baltic States.

Lithuania was part of the Soviet Empire (although a separate country and not part of the USSR). In that sense it is in Eastern Europe. However, it is on the Baltic Sea, which is to the north west of Europe.
