when there is no net movement or net force of 0 and the object is static
EX: a book sitting on a table is in equilibrium b/c the force of weight is pushing down on the table the same amount the table is pushing up on the book. Therefore, there is no movement and the book remains static.

Ok.. basically its the function of your inner ears to counter balance your weight allowing you to stand upright and keep that balance. If by chance your Equilibrium is out of whack. You can fall over, get vertigo, among other things.
A few years back I dislocated one of my ribs.. The next morning I tried to get out of the bed but just fell over. I couldn't keep my equilibrium. I went to the Dr. They thought I had a nervous disorder and that I needed to see a neurologist. I broke down and cried. A women at the Dr's office over heard this and came closer to speak with me.. She told me to seek a chiropractor, I did. and I have been with him for 10 years. The first visit, he took one look at me and said "oh, you dislocated a rib" he knew right way. Popped it back into place and 2 hours later I had regain my Equilibrium.
