It is possible that Manny may end up playing for a NL West team. Who do you think will acquire him and who will the Red Sox be getting? Who is going to fill in the whole at middle infield and what possible pitchers may end up in Boston?

Manny isn't going anywhere.

This would be a trade that would benefit every team involved, which is what a trade should do. The Bosox would get rid of a big problem, and gain a decent player, the Marlins would get a big bat, which they could use, and the Pirates would be getting a good player as well. The question is wether or not the Sox will be able to trade Manny. He has the right to veto any deal. I'm sure he wont after the comments he made to reporters about how "The Red Sox do not deserve a player like me." The Sox will likely pay 7 million on his contract for the Marlins, so this deal is probably going to happen. We will see sometime today.

I can't believe that you haven't gotten one good to your answer yet. The Angels don't even want him, since they just signed Gary Matthews Jr. The Rangers dropped out of discussions and aren't interested, so it's up to the Dodgers, Padres and Giants. The Dodgers may have the best chance because they have the most to offer. The Red Sox are interested in Dodgers first base prospect James Loney. Any deal with the Padres would include set-up man Scott Linebrink and proabaly Jake Peavy. The Padres are hesitant to pay Manny's salary though. The Giants, who right now seem the most interested, have the least to offer. Any trade they made would have to include prospect pitcher Jonathan Sanchez. The Red Sox are trading Manny because he will soon become expendable once the Sox sign JD Drew. They are sick of his lazy and careless attitude, and wouldn't mind dumping his high salary. Although Manny may not mind being reunited with some of his ex-teamates in LA, he still has the power to veto any trade and has said he would prefer to go to an AL team. And that would be the correct answer to your question. By the way the Angels want to keep Figgins so that they could trade hime for Freddy Garcia of the White Sox.

Giants trade either Barry Bonds or Schmidt?

THEY ARE BOTH FA's. The Gaints would have to sign them to a contract and THEN trade them.

Giants have nothing to offer, Angels don't want him, O's, White Sox are not going to happen.

Padres or Dodgers are the most likely.

But they cannot give the Sox a bat they need in return (Rangers can offer Young - but highly unlikely)

The best best is either Peavy/Linebrick or some combination from the Padres, or prospects from the dodgers who can then be traded to get a big bat boston needs.

Boston are not trading Manny unless they get a Bat in return, so thats either M. Young or the rangers, or a 3-team deal, where manny goes to team a who flicks prospects onto team b, who passes said player with a big bat to Boston.

This all has to happen, its a lot of work, and may not end up anywhere.

With the market it is now, Manny is quite desirable.

Soriano 17 million a year? for 8 years? or Manny at 18? with a couple of 20M year options?

Manny is good value now. Hes affordable, and about the most consistent power hitter you can find. Always over 35 HR and 100RBI

Who cares about some issues (most revolve around living in Boston) he is a great great player. Teams want Manny, while his contract may have held of deals in the past, it doesn't now.

Manny was put on waivers a few years ago, but no one claimed him because of the salary.

If the Red Sox were to trade him, they would not get fair value back for him. Because of this, I'm guessing that he's not going anywhere.

He is one of the most feared hitters in the league, and one of the most consistent. If I was a GM with an unlimited amount of money, I'd draft only Pujols and Vlad Guerrero ahead of him.

If they do trade Manny, Ortiz is going to draw walks like crazy no matter who they put behind him (especially if it is Drew that ends up batting behind Ortiz). The Ortiz-Ramirez combination is the best 3-4 in the entire league.

They got to be pretty dumb to trade that guy, anyone they get won't equal ManRam unless its a Arod or a Tejada type. I heard they might sign JD Drew and trade Manny, that would be just stupid. They had a couple injuries that cost them the season last year, but they were in contention almost the whole time, any extreme moves would be dumb, they should go after some speed and get a quality pitcher.

He is older and more "injury" prone than Soriano and Carlos Lee who signed long term contracts for less money. He has an international reputation as a whack job. Bostonians love him. Mike Scoscia would put up with him for about 3 minutes with him jogging down the base path on ground balls.
I have never heard a Bostonian refer to Manny as ManRam, which sounds suspiciously like a club you'd find on the lower West Side of Manhattan, but whoever made up that name would know, wouldn't he?

One of three possibilities with the first being most likely:

1) He ain't goin' anywhere

2) Prospects from Dodgers, Mets, or Giants. Those may be the three most looking for a top-tier OF and can afford the hit of his Salary.

3) To Angels for Figgins/Santana (I thought the Yanks would do this with A-Rod).... (no, I didn't steal it from the other guy that posted this before me)

Whoever they get it better be a Great player with a ton of power. They will pitch around Ortiz from now on unless they get somebody big. JD Drew doesn't scare too many pitchers.

The Giants would trade Jason Schmidt for him. Don't know about the holes, but Pedro Feliz (infielder for SF) would be logical, as would the Dodgers' Kent with (only if medically signed off) Gagne.

Joe Crede and Freedy Garcia from the White Sox or Chone Figgins and Ervin Santana from the Angels
