I've had an ongoing problem for about two years now, that I've been too embarrassed to see a doctor about. It's kind of like this: http://www.webmd.com/hw/health_guide_atoz/sta123250.asp?navbar=hw100017 except I keep getting mucus like stuff instead of "pus". I'm afraid that I have an infected anal fissure.

I don't know who to talk to about this. I'm a girl, should I talk to my OBGYN? Or can I talk to my family doctor about it? Do they have to do anything to CHECK what it is (IE look at the area)? Because I don't think I can handle that...

Thanks in advance for being adult about this embarrassing question.

You need to see a proctologist, not an OBGYN.

The discomfort of anal fissure is extra like what you describe, even if it quite isn't a possibility to tell apart that from inner hemorrhoids which also each so often are painful. in many situations the bleeding is seen at the same time as one defecates...also the discomfort is in many situations felt for the time of defecation. once you've itching, that makes me lean in the direction of thinking hemorrhoids, yet lower back, it may ensue with a fissure as well. So, i wager i'm no longer too powerful the following!!!

Yes call your OBGYN ASAPPPP!!! Of course, they will have to see it, but think about it this way: it's a medical issue. It needs to be addressed before the infection progresses

You and your anal fisher(man) should visit the doctor as soon as practical. Sometimes, for better health, you have to put aside your modesty. So tell the doctor about your problem and let him/her look at it.

Either your GYN or your primary doctor can treat it for you. They will need to look at it, so choose whoever you feel more comfortable with. (maybe the gyn since they see you down there anyway?) Don't be embarassed, these things happen - the physicians will be totally professional.

Either the OBGYN or the family doctor will be able to help you with this. Yes, they do have to check, and you really do need to let them. Embarrassed is better than dead.
