You've got to be kidding.
I've heard many people say that communism works, it's just that Lenin, Stalin, and Mao "did it wrong". The thing is, communism has never worked: there has never been one successful communist regime in the WORLD. It is naive to believe that communism failed simply because it was implemented wrong. It would be a terrible coincidence that all of the advocates of communism happened to be murderous dictators. Communism advocates the idea that "the end justifies the means" which is an inherently evil idea, leading to all kinds of crimes in the name of progress. There is a reason why all of the communist dictators to date have been so unscrupulous.
Communism doesn't work because it removes all incentive to work hard and succeed. It does this by redistributing wealth from the successful to the unsuccessful, and by not allowing people to keep what they earn based on their value to their employer and to consumers. In short, communism never has and never will work.
Ktray, it's interesting that you say that communism isn't bad, it's just that human greed gets in the way of its success. But that's the whole point: communism is a disasterous social system because it doesn't properly take into account some basic facts of human nature.

Communism, if practiced right(which will never happen due to the fact that all leaders have some degree of greed), is an excellent way to run a down and out country with no middle class. The only problem is that so far the only people to take control in communist countries are those who use their power to impose their will, instead of bettering the country. For developed countries, communism probably is not the way to go.

It comes from good intitions, but it requires a strong, powerful government with it's hands in everyone's business. And we all know "absolute power corrupts absolutely."
It also rewards to laziest element in any society & takes away the rewards for the hard workers.
So, the result - a lazy society & a corrupt government - IS really bad.

The problem with Communism and Socialism is that you have a group of people sitting in a room somewhere making decisions about what is in the best interest of millions of people.
What you end up with is millions of starving people.

Communism in it's purest form is not bad at all. Share your skills with the community. Now when you throw people in the mix (i.e. lazy and greed) that's when it starts ending up bad.

In theory no, but as long as you add human emotion ( greed) into the mix it is doomed to failure
