This sounds silly, but my daughters dont really like scary rides and are shy of meeting characters. Is there any point in going to florida now or should we wait until they're older. They're 8 years old. Thanks.

If you bring them to Walt Disney World they'll have the time of their lives. I have an eight-year-old sister and she doesn't care for the characters either, except the pretty princesses, but she had an awesome. There's four fabulous theme parks, two water parks, plus Downtown Disney, and all sorts of recreation. If they don't feel comfortable around the characters then you can completely avoid them - bypass the restaurants that offer character meals, skip the parades, and ignore the lines of children waiting for autographs. When I go to Walt Disney World I go with my boyfriend, and we have no desire to see the characters. They're not often free-roaming the park, and if they are there's always a Cast Member with them who isn't dressed up. Don't worry, the characters shouldn't be a problem at all. Scary rides shouldn't be a problem either. There is a very large selection of rides and many of them are slow-moving and not scary at all - Peter Pan's Flight, the Magic Carpets, the Flying Dumbos, the Barnstormer, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, Ellen's Energy Adventure, Soarin', Living With the Land, El Rio del Tiempo, the Great Movie Ride, TriceraTop Spin, Kilimanjaro Safaris, etc. Plus, the Walt Disney World Parks aren't just rides. There's all kinds of shows, too - stage shows, fireworks shows, Cirque du Soleil, etc.
There's plenty for your daughters to enjoy, trust me. And they really will have the time of their lives.

magic kingdom walt disney world has lots of things for kids to do that aren't "scary". there are shows, rides, and several different ways to meet and greet characters. perhaps a run in with chip and dale on main street would be less intimidating than waiting in line for mickey. the kids that do characters are WAY underpaid in that most of them do an extremely good job at being the character and making a big fur suit as friendly as possible. If they don't like scary just avoid some of the larger rides. there is still a lot that is entertaining for small children. when the park first opened under disney's guidance snow white was labeled "scary" because the witch pops out. by current standards that is tame but also lets you know that most of the older stuff that is still around is fine for kids. there are also shows, parades and fireworks nightly.
just as a thought it is also a great possibilbity that they might break out a bit -- just ask them what they want to do.

You should definitely go. Even to Disney World, just because the characters are there, you don't have to go and meet them. My son (who at this time is an adult) has no problem posing for photos with the fully costumed characters (Mickey Mouse, Goofy, etc) , but when it comes to the ones that just have makeup on (the princesses, Peter Pan), he shies away.
There are so many things to do and see not only in Disney World , but the entire surrounding area, you will have a great time. Just don't force the girls into doing something that they don't want to do. (nothing worse than seeing a parent try to coax a frightened, screaming child to pose for a picture with Mickey)
There are many "behind the scene tours" that you can take , and so many other activities that many folks don't even know about. You can call the Disney travel line (phone number at their website) and ask all the questions you would like. They can make suggestions for you.

They are going to enjoy Disney anyway, don´t wait more. You can avoid the characters (ha, you will have more time to take the rides) and not all the rides are scary, you can go to Peter Pan, Winnie Pooh or others at Magic Kingdom, you can watch all the great shows they have (the coronation of Cinderella, Beauty and the Best in MGM), it´s simply great.
enjoy Disney while you can (and have the money to do so)

I highly recommend your children going to Disney world. i am 18 and have been going every year since i was four. even though i am at college, i am still going with my parents this year. at Epcot, you can go under the sea, into the future, and to countries all over the world. MGM has great parades and shows not to mention the "honey i shrunk the kids" playground. Animal Kingdom has the most amazing zoo, a dinosaur excavation site, and awesome rides. Magic Kingdom has many rides that, instead of scaring children, take them into their favorite Disney movies. Downtown Disney has cool shops, restaurants, and a 5 story arcade. There are water parks like blizzard Beach which looks like it snowed in Florida. characters are almost impossible to get to since children mob them so, your shy girls wouldn't have to see them if they didn't want to. I was shy too at first, but I always loved seeing princess Jasmine, belle, snow white, and Mary Poppins since they weren't as frightening to me as 5 foot mice. they will have so much fun in Orlando, they will never want to leave, i know from experience.

I think they will be fine. There are plenty of rides at Walt Disney World that are not scary rides. Also, the characters let you approach them first. 8 years old is a good age for them to go.

There is so much to do in and around Orlando. Ther is the Magic Kingdom at Disney World, there is Sea World, Epcot, Universal, water parks and more. They are just the right age to enjoy these and more! There is a dinner theatre that features magic acts and knights. Go and enjoy!

there are a lot of things to do in orlando besides ride scary rides and meet disney characters, i think they will have fun!! going to disney is like being in a whole other world, i think they will feel the magic!

Orlando isn't just about Disney World. I think you should take them but there's plenty of other things to do than just the amusement park. Check you near by cities and other attractions. Any vacation is a fun vacation and would be treasured by them for years to come.

There are rides they would like, however you may want to consider waiting a few years seeing how the majority of the rides are for thrill seekers and there is many characters.
