are you talking about USB for your nintendo or you computer? in general, computers have 2-8 ports (they are all together; none are off by themselves), but you can buy (as i have) a USB port that sits on you desk and eliminates the necessity to have to crawl under a desk to get to your ports. but that's not what you asked, is it?
i don't think it's a question of not having enough power, try a different cable or try unplugging and plugging in the cable.

How old is your computer? The newer ones have 6 usb ports. 2 in the front and 4 in the back. But if it's not working on the 2 you have it might not work on the rest. Check the drivers for your usb ports.

You really only need one as each port can support 67 devices if you have a usb hub of that size

depends on the computer and how old it is. my laptop has 2 of them on the back of it. Two is probably the most common amounts I have seen, but I have seen some with more. Then you have towers which you can connect to a USB port and then have 4 USB ports instead of the one.

Look at the back. The real number varies on your computer. Most newer computers have 4 in back and 2 or none in front. But, it varies. If you have a Dell or small form factor computer, it uses nonstandard parts, so the number could be anything

Yeah, there should be. I have four on my labtop alone. But there should be a main one, if you have a desktop, its most likely of the back of the tower, but i cant be sure. You might want to consult your computer manual just to be sure though. :)
