I'm going to see my doctor tomorrow to talk to him about trying to become pregnant. I was told that this visit is called an "infertility visit" because of the information we'll be discussing. (My main reason for seeing him is to get information on how to predict ovulation with very irregular menstrual cycles.) What should I expect at this visit? Has anyone else had this kind of visit with their doctor?

The doctor will ask you questions like how old you were when you started to menstruate. Were your periods irregular from the beginniing. If not, when did they become irregular?. Do you get cramps? How often do you try to conceive and when during your cycle? A lot of tests are done by ultrasound and blood tests. They may have to be done at a clinic that has the right equipment. He would probably like to get some results from tests before he can prescribe some medication to help you regulate your period. A cousin of mine was prescribed the birth control pill to regulate her period. Good luck.

They'll ask you questions about you and your partner's medical history, about the frequency of your sex life, and about how long you've been trying to conceive. They'll probably do the normal doctor's office rigamarole of weight/height/blood pressure/pulse. The doc may order some tests for both you and your partner, and they may do a pelvic exam and pap smear. A lot depends on your practice... some tests may be performed right then (if you're up for it), other places may just chat with you and give you some instructions for followup.

My first visit was filled with lots of info from the docs and double that with personal questions. I also had an ultrsound done of my overies that day too.
I am sure most first visits go basically the same way.
