even if u dont know the answer, just guess. if congress was a football game with 2 teams, Democrats & Republicans, who do you think would win the Super Bowl (passing laws) in 1866 (right after the civil war and the 14th and 15th amendment, during the reconstructino acts)? why?

The republicans. The election of 1866 was a landslide victory because the democrats were no longer a national party. It had split before the civil war (disagreements between northern and southern democrats). This meant that the majority of congress was now republican (a.k.a. they could pass whatever law they wanted). Early on with the slaves freed the army helped with the registrations of voters and allowed freed slaves to vote, and of course the majority of them voted republican because they were trying to help the slaves during the civil war.

Republicans! At that time there were vertually no Democrats in Congress. The Northern states were all republican at that time and since the Southern states were being reconstucted they did not have any representatives in Congress. Then even the states that were rejoinging the Union often elected Republicans.
