That's a hard one. Gandlf is the good guy, and in most books, the good guy wins. Although if Saroun had the ring... Gandalf is good, but he would have a hard match if Sauron had the ring.

good question. Gandalf was sure that no one, including himself, could resist Sauron with the ring. Sauron did not, after all, have any conscience whatsoever. re the answer that Isildur cut the ring from S' hand once: Sauron had faded and then spent many years coming back bigger and badder than ever- he was no longer the same 'man' (?) as then. I'm with the 'Sauron' crowd...

Common people think! Gandalf of course. Remember, Sauron had the ring of power in the beginning and got it cut from his hand by Isildoure a mere human. Check it, bully's are never really that tough, they just have a lot of people do their dirty work for them.

Sauron has more power with the ring. One person couldn't contain that. I'd say he'd win. Gandalf would need more than just himself to ultimately win.

Gandalf
(but with the ring Sauron would put up a good fight).

Sauron would squash him like a bug if he had the ring.
