the boundary for rounding off is 5 ( if 5 or above round up if 4 or below round down )
2.49 rounds to 2.5 which rounds to 3 ( if you keep the other digits you are not rounding the number )
if the task is to round to the nearest whole number and show your proof then 2.49 - 2.00 = .49 and 3.00 - 2.49 = .51 so 2 is the answer ( you always round in ONE STEP so you cannot go 2.49 to 2.5 to 3 as you stated )
REMEMBER TO DROP THE EXTRA DIGITS EVEN THE 'CORRECT' ANSWERS FORGOT ( always lol )

No, the rule in rounding numbers off is, that if it is half , or more then you increase the number. If the number was 2.50-2.99, then you could round the number off to 3.00, but since 2.49 is less than 2.5, then rounded off, the number would remain at 2.

No 2.50 or 2 for a whole number. A number doesn't round up unless its got a .50 or higher at the end.
If a number has the same repeating number like 2.99999999999 You can just put 2.9 with a little straight like over the 9.

If you're rounding to whole numbers, 2.49 wuold still be 2. Anything 2.50 or higher would be 3. A number that just goes on forever is called a pie (I think).

It estimates to 2.50, or if you have to have a round number it would be 2.
Think of it this way.
Is 49 closer to 1 or 100?
Its closer to 1.

It depends on what your homework says to round to. It could round to 2.00, 2.5, or if it says to round to the nearest whole number, then it could be 3.00. And I am trying to think of what a number is when it goes on an on.......I'll get back to you on that. Good luck with your homework. At least you actually do it, unlike most kids.

No it doesn't round to 3.00. You round from the entirety of the number you have; not place by place.
49 is less than 50 so you round down.
