when should I start reading to my baby?

My baby is one month old dec 2 and he still sleeps most of the day, awake approx 4-6 hours a day. When he is awake I give him tummy time or just talk and play with him. So my question is when should I start reading to him for his comprehension? thanks

Now ! it would help you bond with your little one and if nothing else you'd have a cosy cuddle with each other ,stimulite your little mite with pictures and your voice is to soothing to him

Babies love hearing your voice, so it's never too early. We started reading to my daughter when she was still in the womb. She would get very quiet and then when my husband said "The End" and she didn't hear anything else, she would start kicking furiously! Once she arrived, we read to her all the time. We even have a picture of my husband curled up in our bed with her reading at 3 days old. Don't worry about the comprehension. She will pick up more than you know. You can start with big colorful board books that he can stare at. At about 6 months, at night I used to read anything and everything to my daughter: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Harry Potter, even some Greek mythology. She would just listen and then slowly fall asleep looking happy and safe. I know she didn't understand the bulk of it at that point, but I wanted her to get into the habit of liking books and being read to. Now at 2 1/2 she is an avid "reader": we read 3 books (kids books, now that she understands more) every night at bedtime and she also "reads" to me (makes up stories based on what she sees in the books). She has a great vocabulary and sometimes uses words I had no idea she knew.

It is never too early to instill a love of books and reading in your child. And remember, the fact that you are focusing on them and showing them something colorful will be good enough and he'll love it. He will also begin to pick up new words from you as you talk throughout the day, and reading is a great way to reinforce that.

It's never too early to read to your baby. Even if he's just a month old, he responds to the tone and rhythm of your voice and will likely be soothed by it. As he gets older, it will likely help with comprehension and vocabulary building, and if you're lucky he'll develop a lifelong appreciation for the value in reading.

My daughter is 6 weeks and she has just started being awake more during the day. So every evening I give her either a sponge bath or a regular tubby and then I feed her and read her a book. You'll be amazed at how they really pay attention to you. She looks at me while I read and then she stops and looks at the colors on the pages. Its great!

You should start to read to him right now, well the next time he is awake. He can't understand but it helps him to get some stuf in his mind. My mom read to me when I was very young and read over and over and I could read before i was 5! So even though he can't understand it still has a big impact on his life. You should read to your baby as soon as you are pregnant. A baby absorbs most of things as an infant. The first year of his or her life is nothing but absorbing time for their brain cells. Read to that baby girl. Every day if poss.
You want to expose your baby to all the reading you can. You need to get a book on a babies first year. It will tell you what to do with your baby from physical care to mental care as well. It's good that you are interested. Kudos for you!

Start right away! Even if he doesn't quite understand what you're saying yet, reading helps with speech and language development. It's also good for him to start seeing the colorful pictures. On top of that, it's just plain fun, and is one of the BEST bonding experiences!

well your not too late so no worries. you can read to your baby now do it while baby is having tummy time. another cool thing is get baby a cloth book to play with during tummy time as he grows and likes to play with the book you can use it to teach him to respect books.

i started reading to my kids while i was prego the first one well everybody laughed at me for it and she loved books from the get go and then of course the other two got read to while i read to their sister.
