I'm still trying to figure out who smuggled Billybob Clinton out of the country to avoid the draft so the guys in the military wouldn't find out he's an unrepentant bed wetter.

Are you implying that our National Guard is some kind of joke? Lots of people enlist in the Guard for a variety of reasons.

Were you upset that Clinton was a total draft-dodger? I am constantly amazed by the "enlightened" people who have no problem with Clinton's actions to get out of Vietnam, yet roast Bush for being in the Guard.

Yes. The ability of the wealthy is well-connected to get out of service in Vietnam is one great disgrace from that period. While I don't blame Bush (and Dan Quayle, and dozens of other young men) for not wanting to go and get shot at, it's shameful that they were able to do so.

TX had a Dem govt then. Bush the elder was a freshman Rep Congressman at the time. He didn't have that much influence.

Do you think that Clintons mother fixed it so he could protest against the US in Russia instead of go to Viet Nam?

GB senior didn't have to. it's a natural easement of sorts -- the son of a powerful and prominent public figure is always going to be slotted in the safety zone, unless he personally objects and asks to be shipped to the front line. de facto standard.

VIPs often get special treatment. You will see this in all types of situations. Just because somebody went to war does not make them the best candidate for government office.
