is the word mean and rude? canadians have the word 'canuck' between themselves,but is used only by canadians.

Well we have the New York Yankees, people from the northeast of the US are called Yankees, Yankee Doodle is a well loved American song, there's Yankee pot roast too! In my personal experience people I have been good friends with from England, Canada, and Australia call me a "yank". Never had a problem with it. I think Americans are so patriotic that the word "Yankee" could never be an insult.

Not really. Being called a confederate isn't too nice though. Old people use the phrase "them southerners are still fightin' the war." But other then that - it's a redneck thing.

Not really. I'm used to it because I'm originally from New England so other Americans have called me that anyway.

mostly not in today's day and age. i'm a born yankee from pa but now live in tx and i don't get offended when i'm called that
