Simple: Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir will not permit any interference from an outside source - including the 22,000 peace keeping force authorized by a UN resolution - despite the raping, murder and pillaging being committed by the Arab militias.

Do you not see the criticism that the present administration is getting for its efforts in Iraq - can you not imagine the back lash if we were to invade yet another country, regardless of the honorable intentions?

200,000 people slaughtered and another 2 1/2 million driven from their homes - I guess the pacifist, anti-war nut jobs in this country can't justify intervention for ANY reason.

We are, sometimes it takes more effort to ignore something than it would to solve the problem. I can advise the people of Darfur but it has been tried before, move out of the desert, food will not grow in the desert, move to an area that is at peace. No more problems!!

Tofu you must be confused by all the Christmas cheer.

How is it a great prophet like you cant figure it out and Michelle absolutely nails it.

The problem is people don't want to admit they hate Black People and Poor Black people are even worse.

So they pretend it isn't so bad or that it is going away. But in their heart and soul their internal dialog is Who cares about a bunch of skinny *******

Go big Red Go

Because Bush has learned that the media will just trash him for trying to help out wherever he goes... as soon as he said anything about helping out in Darfur the media would hold a contest to see who could condemn Bush for it the most and saying the good folks of the Janjaweed just need to be left alone.

There is no oil there, there is no money for haliburton to make there, and its not strategic militarily. More people have died there because of starvation and war than Saddam ever thought of killing yet you don't hear anybody saying wouldn't we be better off without the killing in darfur.

The United States has nothing to gain by helping Darfur. By aiding them we would only waste money; our nation does not run on ethics and morality, it runs on money, oil, and commerse; we gain none of these by helping those people. Though we should not draw the line at what helps our economy our nation is corrupt and capitalistic and thus we do nothing for those who are living in areas of suffering unless we get a piece of their pie.

Unfortunately, the U.S. won't get involved in Darfur because there isn't anything that the country of Darfur can offer us in terms of goods or services that we need (aka oil). The people desperately need our help and they will not get it until it is much too late and the massive genocide will have wiped out millions. Look at how long it took us to get involved in Rwanda. It's a disgrace.
