Basically there're 2 approaches to this problem:

1. Factoring -- easy but NOT applicable to ALL problems.
After factoring, it becomes:
(5x+1)(3x+5)=0 (cuz 15=5*3, 5=1*5, and 28=5*5+3*1)
therefore either 5x+1=0 or 3x+5=0
then the two real roots are:
x=-1/5, -5/3

2. Quadratic formula -- general & reliable but more work.
Assuming u know the formula (if not look it up in ur math book), just go head and plug in all corresponding coefficients of the original equation (here a=15, b=28, c=5), yields:
x=(-28+/-square root of (28^2-4*15*5))/(2*15)=-1/5, -5/3
which gives u exactly the same answers as method 1.

Hope these make sense to u.. GoOd Luck!..^^

15x^2 + 28x + 5 = 0.

You can directly use the formula -b squared plus or minuus etc.

If you want to factorise the left hand side, the procedure is this.

suppose the equation is of the form, ax^2 + bx + c = 0

Find a*c. Here its 15*5= 75.

Find 2 factors of 75 such that their sum is b i.e 28.

Those 2 factors are 3 and 25.

Now write 28 = 25 + 3 in the equation.

15x^2 + 25x + 3x + 5 = 0
5x(3x+5) + 1(3x + 5) = 0
(5x+1)(3x+5) = 0
x = -1/5 or -5/3

15x²+28x+5=0
(5x+1)(3x+5)=0
So 5x+1=0 or 3x+5=0
5x=-1 or 3x=-5
x=-1/5 or x=-5/3

ok
(5x + 1)(3x + 5)=0
5x+1=0 OR
3x+5=0

x=-1/5 or x=-5/3

TEST IT OUT
(-1/5)^2 = 1/25
15(1/25) = 3/5
28(-1/5) = -5 3/5
3/5 -5 3/5 + 5 = 0 YES

(-5/3)^2 = 25/9 = 2 7/9
15(2 7/9) = 41 2/3
28(-5/3) = -46 2/3
41 2/3 - 46 2/3 + 5 = 0 YES

(5x + 1)(3X + 5) = 0. X = -1/5 or -5/3. If you were unable to solve it. You won't be able to pass the final. Get a tutor.

Oh, you could manage this one... provide it a shot. right that's a contact: the purely factors of 15 are a million, 3, 5, 15. the purely factors of 5 are a million and 5. inspite of the actuality that in the adventure that your instincts are not reliable, there are not that many mixtures to envision.

28x+15x= 43x squared
43x squared = 1489x
1849x + 5 = 0
minus 5 from both sides
1849x= (-5)
divide 5 by 1849 and you get. . .

ok. This one is really easy, I am not giving you the answer because this group is called "homework help" not "homework: Please do it for me and give me the answer"!!!
But I will tell you how to do it: plug it into the quadratic formula, and that will give you x, since it will be hard for you to factor that thing out.

or take the easy way out and plug in the numbers at this site:
