I am car-clueless so please pardon my ignorance. I got 4 new tires installed yesterday. I also wanted a 4 wheel alignment but the shop doesn't do alignments (found out after I already had the tires installed) so I am taking it to another shop tomorrow for that. In driving the car today, it doesn't pull to the right or left; it rides like a champ with the new tires. Is the alignment necessary even though the car "feels" okay to me? I suspect that I should have the alignment done but I just wondered what you "auto-pros" on here have to say. Thanks.

All 4 tires were worn out so it was time for new ones. Two of them were worn unevenly. I plan to go ahead with the alignment. Thanks everyone.

Were the old tires worn unevenly? Why did you need new tires, if it was because all four tires were pretty much evenly worn, you should be ok w/o an alignment. If one or more of the tires was more worn, or if any of them had an irregular wear pattern (like loads of tread on the inner part and bald on the outer part) then you need an alignment.

If you have not had one in recent memory it is a good idea to have the car aligned and also remember to have the tires rotated at every other oil change.

If you have not been in a wreck there is no need to align your car. Your alignment is set at the factory and unless you wreck it or hit a curb at over 25 mph you should not need to align the vehicle ever. You may need to replace a few parts along the way as they wear out but even then, no alignment is needed unless the parts are install differently then they were removed. This "you need an alignment every time you have your tires replaced" is just Good Marketing form big chain tire stores. If you wreck the car, you will need an alignment done. If you have parts replaced and do not get them back in the same place as the old parts, you will need an alignment.

If the car wasn't pulling to the side or the tires that came off Didn't show any odd wear you are OK for awhile for sure...

Also better safe than Odd wear patteren in 5000 miles. So get the alignment.

If someones car is rear wheel drive car I recommend front end alignment once every 2 years or sooner... Front wheel drive cars I recommend once a year... OR unless you've bumped a curb or Hit a Super Pot Hole... Just after...

I also recommend rotating and balancing the New tires every 2nd Oil change or if easier by mileage 5000 to 7500 miles so you get the most out of those New tires.

You have the right Idea... Just do it...

It depends on if you plan on having the car for a while or not. If you are then I would have the alignment done just for the peace of mind that you know they are aligned. This will give you more life out of the tires. Also rotating the tires every 7000 miles is a good idea.

Proper alignment is always good whether the tires are new or not. If you just bought new tires it would be a good idea to get the front end aligned. This will help to ensure even and proper tire wear.

If there are no handling problems, your mechanic can determine if an alignment is necessary by looking at the wear pattern on the old tires, and checking for loose or worn parts in the steering and suspension.

no it is not necessary i working in a garage for a little while changing tires the only eception is if the tires were not worn evenly from side to side. Example if the outside was worn more than the inside of the tire.

Alignment doesn't usually get off unless you've replaced parts or hit some pretty hard curbs or bumps.
